Exploring Geography & History Outdoors


Would you like to help your Geography lessons come alive? Why not take them outdoors? Join us to learn some simple activities and techniques for working with the Geography curriculum outside. We'll explore some simple, hands-on activities designed to engage and make learning memorable.

Would you like to make History live? And allow your students to participate in historical activities rather than hear about them? This is the course for you. We'll explore some simple hands-on activities to enhance the history curriculum.

Activities are based at Early Years, KS1 and KS2 level with opportunities to differentiate as you need to.

Exploring Art & Play Outdoors


Want to be more creative with your art lessons? Why not take them outside? This course explore a variety of artistic and creative ideas and projects, working outdoors, using natural and man-made materials.

Want to expand your ideas base for easy outdoor play activities? This course will involve you taking part in a wide range of practical outdoor play using natural resources and equipment which costs next to nothing. Ideal for you if you work in Early Years/KS1 and want to expand your outdoor play.

 

Exploring Camp Fire Cooking

An opportunity to participate in a range of campfire skills. We'll explore different starting techniques and set ups, and cook a variety of different foods using lots of different methods. There will also be the opportunity to have a go using the resident wood fired pizza oven.

All food and training provided. This is an ideal opportunity to have a go at something new, refresh old skills and/or to enhance Forest School skills.

Outdoor Learning Practitioner (Level 2)

 

Ideal for those working at any level, who wish to enhance their curriculum and utilise their grounds by taking learning outside.

An accredited (level 2) training course designed to show you how to make the most of outdoor learning opportunities using your school grounds. A range of activities and ideas mapped to your curriculum, the risks/benefits and sustainability of using your outdoor space.

Participants will be expected to run outdoor learning sessions in their workplace and produce a short workbook focusing on their experiences

Outdoor Learning Coordinator (Level 3)


The Certificate in Coordinating an Outdoor Learning Curriculum (Level 3) is a professional qualification which looks at the context behind outdoor learning, how to embed this as a whole school strategy, how to plan for an all year round programme of outdoor learning and how to cascade knowledge and enthuse others to get outside the classroom.

Entry route to this course is via the Outdoor Learning Practitioner Course (Level 2) or Forest School Leader (Level 3)

 

 

Exploring English Outdoors

 

Would you like to help your English lessons come alive? why not take them outdoors? Join us to learn some simple activities and techniques for working with the English curriculum outside. We'll expand our vocabulary, make stories come alive and create our own poems and tall tales. Activities are based at Early Years, KS1 and KS2 level with opportunities to differentiate as you need to.

 

Exploring Maths Outdoors

 

Want to make your Maths lessons more engaging and real? Why not take them outdoors? Join us exploring a range of ideas for working with the maths curriculum outside. We'll show you and ask you to take part in a wide variety of outdoors maths-based activities using simple natural materials and basic equipment. Activities are based at Early Years, KS1 and KS2 level with opportunities to make them more complicated/more simple as you need to.


Horticulture and Biodiversity for School/Nursery Grounds 


Want to enhance your grounds attract more wildlife? Would you like to learn how to make the most of your gardens/growing spaces, and create learning opportunities for your children to engage with?
Join us exploring a range of ideas for improving biodiversity on your grounds. We'll show you how to make your own wildlife habitats/homes and feeders which you can use with your children, via simple activities and basic equipment.
We will also explore a range of simple horticulture ideas and activities including sowing and propagation. Plus ideas for successful fruit and veggie growing to fit in with school terms and planting to benefit biodiversity and sensory exploration.


Working with Willow


S pend the day learning how to bend willow into a variety of projects. We'll cover basic weaving, lantern making plus teach you how to make your own willow dome or tunnel. Designed to be a 'hands-on' course with plenty of ideas and 'creations' to take away and use.


Exploring Habitats and Pond Dipping


Want to explore your local habitats at a deeper level? Learn how to successfully and safely find and survey the inhabitants of a variety of typical habitats to include; field, woodland/trees and hedgerows. Increase your confidence with identification skills and collection equipment

Learn how to run a successful and safe pond dipping session. Discover a whole new world beneath the water. Increase your confidence with identification skills and pond dipping equipment.

Suitable for those working in EYFS, KS1 and KS2

 

Creative Arts Outdoors


A day to explore a variety of artistic and creative ideas and projects, working outdoors, using natural and man-made materials.

Aimed at those working in the EYFS, KS1 & KS2, the day will include many ideas and projects to take away and use with your groups.


Practical Skills for Forest School Leaders

Spend the day increasing your confidence and enhancing your practical skills in the woodland. Ideal for those who would like more practise improving their practical skills and any rusty Forest School Leaders and Assistants.

Using basic hand-tools to create simple wood projects, building successful campfires, cooking skills, tying knots and shelter building.

**You will need to be working towards your Forest School qualification or already hold a Forest School qualification at level 2 or 3**


Outdoor Paediatric First Aid for Forest School Leaders and Outdoor Learning Leaders


A two day training course in First Aid, ideal for Forest School Leaders, Outdoor Learning Leaders and those who spend a lot of time working with children outdoors. This course is very hands on, and cover paediatrics and dealing with scenarios outdoors.


Outdoor First Aid Training

 

A one-day course in Outdoor First Aid. Includes dealing with emergency scenarios outdoors. Perfect for anyone working with children and young people outdoors. The course will be very hands-on with lots of opportunity to put your skills into practise.

**You'll need an existing First Aid qualification to attend (at least 6 hours). **

Short Course Description


Teach, Learn and Play - Sneaky learning in the Outdoors!

Why not let children learn the fun way, outside, learning becomes easier and more natural. Come and join us in a fun packed day filled with ideas and activities you can take back to your setting which will connect your children to the natural environment. All handouts included.

 

Delivering the EYFS Outdoors.

Ensuring young children get time to discover the outdoor world is essential to their development and growth.

THs course will give you the basics to get started in your outdoor natural journey.  We will spend our time looking at and taking part in activities which cover the whole of the framework.  We will spend time discussing the challenges you might face  and how you can overcome them to create a successful natural space.


The Viking Way.

Everyone wants to be a Viking!


Don't look through text books - get children outside to find out how they really lived.


Spend the day with a Viking - Amongst outdoor activities suitable for teaching the history curriculum outside you will lean the basic principles of fire building, natural dying and simple pewter casting using cuttlefish. This exciting opportunity is strictly limited to 6 places so please book early.  Includes a simple Viking lunch cooked over the fire.
